Instagram's Head of Global Business said in April that the era of link in bio is finally over, now that eligible creators can tag products directly inside a Reel and send viewers straight to checkout without ever leaving the app.

What Instagram Actually Shipped

Eligible creators, 18 and older with at least 1,000 followers, can now tag up to 30 products directly inside a Reel. Viewers tap the tag and land on a product page inside the app, no bio link required. The feature is live across 22 Instagram commerce markets, and Meta is not taking a cut of the affiliate sales it generates. It is a real, useful shortcut for creators who already run an Instagram Shop catalogue and mostly sell physical or catalogued products.

What It Actually Replaces

It replaces exactly one specific step: sending an Instagram Reels viewer to a product link through your bio. If that is the only thing your bio link was doing, Instagram just made it faster. That is a genuine win for creators whose entire business already lives inside Instagram Shop.

What It Does Not Touch

The feature is Instagram-only, Reels-only, and product-catalogue-only. It does nothing for traffic coming from TikTok, YouTube, a newsletter, or a podcast description, none of which route through Instagram at all. It does nothing for a membership tier, a booking calendar, a digital download that is not in a commerce catalogue, or just being the one place someone can see everything about you before they decide to follow. A bio link's job was never only “get someone to buy the thing I just showed in this video.” It is being findable across every platform your audience actually splits across, and doing more than a single checkout once they land.

So Is Link in Bio Actually Over?

No. One narrow, high-friction step got shorter for creators who already had an Instagram Shop set up. Everything a bio link does outside that specific case, cross-platform discovery, memberships, bookings, digital products, a real profile, is untouched. Turning one link into multiple revenue streams is still the actual hard problem creators are solving, and it is not one Instagram's product tags were built to solve.
