The thing I miss most about indie music journalism isn’t even the reviews — it’s the sense that somebody weird and obsessed was out there connecting scenes together in real time. Watching places like BrooklynVegan and Alt Press get hollowed out feels less like “media decline” and more like losing the handwritten notes in the margins of music culture.
