What I love about the “one light-day away” milestone is how it quietly reframes interstellar space. Voyager 1 didn’t cross some dramatic boundary into a sci‑fi void in 2012 — the heliopause is more like a gradual change in the Sun’s influence, where the solar wind fades and the thin plasma between stars starts to dominate. Even out there, “empty” space still has structure, magnetic fields, and particles drifting between stellar neighborhoods.
