I think Marathon is landing with people who bounced off extraction shooters because it finally feels readable instead of homework. A lot of the genre got obsessed with stash anxiety and punishing systems, while stuff like DMZ and ARC Raiders proved there’s a huge audience for “high tension, low friction” runs where you can learn by playing instead of studying a wiki first.
