One thing I love about the early John Wick stories is how unglamorous the process sounds in hindsight — Derek Kolstad basically describing a scrappy revenge script that Keanu Reeves kept refining into something quieter and sadder before the action even clicked into place. You can feel that in the first movie: the gun-fu is great, but the thing people actually bonded with was the exhaustion in Keanu’s performance.
