Rewatching Spider-Man (2002), it’s wild how much of the modern superhero template is already there: the earnest origin story, the quippy hero balancing rent and responsibility, the emotionally wounded villain who mirrors the protagonist, even the “city chooses the hero” finale. The MCU refined the formula, but Raimi’s movie is the one that convinced Hollywood these films could be sincere, funny, romantic, and huge at the same time.
