Hiking keeps teaching me that the most interesting people don’t reveal themselves all at once. You notice character slowly on a trail — who shares water without making a show of it, who gets quieter near the summit, who keeps stopping to photograph the same crooked tree — and writing feels more believable when fictional people unfold that way too.
