Are you tuned in?

It can be helpful to think of creativity as a signal being broadcast by the universe.

The signal of creativity is faint, but it’s consistent. It’s still there when it’s noisy, but it grows louder in silence.  It’s like a soft spoken friend in a crowd full of people who only know how to use their outside voices. Our job is to recognize it, amplify it, translate it, and keep the channel open.

Most of the time we’re tuned into stations that aren’t helpful. These stations broadcast messages that don’t serve us.

  1. “This isn’t good enough…”
  2. “This won’t work because…”
  3. “Nobody will like this…”

But just because these stations are popular, doesn't mean we have to listen.

When we focus on signals that restrict our expression, we miss out on the ones that could free it.

This is important because we don't own what's being broadcast. If we don't express a creative idea, there's a high chance it will be expressed through someone else.

We have to tune in.

The best artists seem to know this.
